Jumping into 5th Grade is an engaging summer program designed to prepare students for the challenges of 5th grade math while enhancing their skills and understanding in number operations and fractions. This course is specifically designed to bridge the gap between grade levels, ensuring a smooth transition and building a strong foundation for success. Students will also develop problem-solving abilities and strengthen their proficiency in solving word problems.

Course Objectives:

Prepare for 5th grade math: The primary goal of this course is to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in 4th grade math. Students will review and reinforce key concepts from previous grade levels, ensuring a solid foundation in number operations and fractions. This will enable them to confidently tackle more complex math topics in the upcoming academic year.

Improve skills in number operations: The course will focus on strengthening students' understanding and proficiency in number operations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. 

Develop understanding of fractions: Students will delve into the world of fractions, deepening their conceptual understanding and mastery of this critical mathematical concept. 

Enhance problem-solving abilities:  They will gain the confidence to tackle complex word problems using bar-models and apply mathematical concepts to real-life situations.

Date and Time:
- Tuesdays
 from 5 - 6 PM Central Time
- June 11, 18, 25, July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30
- Lessons are recorded for playback if a student misses class.

Meet the instructor

Ms. Kirsten

Ms. Kirsten was a former teacher in two elementary schools in Singapore and has taught mathematics for over 10 years. Kirsten believes that with proper guidance, students can excel in mathematics and would love to help students reach their potential. Kirsten resides in Hawaii and loves traveling and cooking.
